Smart Relay Creates Safety & Efficiency Boom
A large oil & gas exploration company made what is expected to be one of the biggest oil and gas discoveries of the decade in the Permian region’s western part of Texas. The company began evaluating several brands of protection relays to protect their investments in pumps and motors, optimise productivity, and improve safety. After the company’s engineers tried the Littelfuse Bluetooth® Overload Relay MP8000, the company stopped its search and installed MP8000s across the oil-and-gas rich region.
Littelfuse Arc-Flash Relay Saves Plant from Catastrophic Damage
Tim Deschamp from Evans Enterprises, Tulsa, Oklahoma, was working with a customer to help them resolve and reduce a critical issue with an electrical hazard in their furnace control room. An earlier arc-flash analysis had determined that one 480-volt cabinet, which was fed from a 3500 kVA transformer, exceeded an arc-flash Hazard Risk Category 4 (HRC). This meant that a worker was not allowed to approach the cabinet if it was open. The door to the cabinet was therefore kept closed, and everything related to it was done remotely. The problem was that the cabinet, along with the associated transformer, were accessible to employees. This was clearly an unacceptable and unsafe situation.
Deschamp knew that to be able to work on the cabinet or lower required PPE, he needed to find a way to lower the HRC. He selected the PGR-8800 Arc-Flash Relay from Littelfuse, which could be easily retrofitted in to the existing cabinet. This device can lower incident energy by detecting a developing arc flash and sending a trip signal to the breaker within 1 ms. Deschamp was wary of durability and maintenance problems that he had experienced with other relay manufacturers and wanted a solution that would be both reliable and easy to maintain.
Deschamp installed the Littelfuse PGR-8800 Arc-Flash Relay in the controls section of the cabinet, with two light sensors mounted in each of the three power compartments. The trip output of the relay was connected to the shunt trip input of the main breaker.

I called thru at 430pm EST and was put in contact with Sally in Vic! From the moment the call was answered Sally couldn’t do enough to try and help..... then she organised for Sydney to open up at 6am for me to collect the fuses. As a service-based company it was very refreshing to come across someone that went over and above to help us client back into production as quickly as we could!

LAWRENCE AND HANSON
I would like to acknowledge the exceptional service provided by one of your employees over the Xmas break. On Christmas day we lost a 22kV underground feed to a very important part of our business and were desperate for some replacement HV fuses. I found your emergency contact details on the web a and immediately called. The person who answered was very helpful and arranged an emergency transport to our site. The next day, we were back up and running! We are a remote operation 1800kms from the nearest city and average service is the norm.

I don’t normally do this but I feel compelled to thank you in writing. I have been in the electrical industry for 25 years and without a doubt the most competent and trustworthy supplier I have used over this period of time is Fuseco. This is a demanding industry and how your team keeps performing above expectations is exceptional to me.
Ross Adam
EXPORT DEPT AT REXEL
I have dealt with Fuseco for the last 6 years for all our fuse requirements and find they provide the highest quality service and on-going support to our business for our day to day operations and for emergency/ heatwave as they arise. During a heatwave event in January 2014, SA Power Networks had critical fuse demands. Fuseco were extremely responsive in expediting stock requirements and organising special air freights to meet our urgent demands. Their customer service is excellent and key KPI’s measured against the contract are always above target.
